Tuesday Writing Prompt Challenge: Tuesday, May 11, 2021

Devereaux Frazier and Beth Amanda are currently hosting the Tuesday Writing Prompt Challenge which was started by our star writer Christine Ray. We hope to offer all of you something that will spark your creativity and willingness to participate.

The prompts are designed to be quick challenges that can be written in 10 to 15 minutes, inspire you creatively, are fun, and get everyone interacting. Please post your response to the prompt in the comments below and show your fellow posters some love and support. All members of the Go Dog Go community, including Baristas, are welcome to participate. Feel free to share this post on your own blogs and/or Facebook.

Today’s prompt: Write a poem that uses the words negative, balance, and erosion.

Happy Writing!

  2. Here are my thoughts on this…

    In The Balance

    The building blocks were created
    by a negative force,
the erosion of the cliff by the tide,
    gradual at first
    and then total collapse
    after one mighty storm.
    Then came a constant procession
of people walking along the beach,
    surveying the damage like voyeurs
    of destruction.
    Later, smaller processions came
    and began to reconstruct
    the debris
    into finely balanced sculptures
    defying gravity.
    Dozens of them,
    almost a beach full.
They knew they would be washed away
    eventually
and they knew they would rebuild them
    eventually,
    rebuild them higher,
    higher and higher.
    Creation or destruction,
    it’s always in the balance.

  4. The Aftermath

    I look at our past
    through sepia negatives
    what once was a rock
worn down by the rain of fights
    erosion of grief
    earthquake of rage
faded into nothing more than particles of clay
    on an out of balance
    stage of life

    I no longer wonder
why you work yourself to death
and I seek solace in the bottles
