Throwback Friday, Loneliness, by Ivor Steven

I’m into my third week of Lockdown, here in Geelong, and this old poem of mine, “Loneliness”, seems to be appropriate, on this cold and wet weekend.

Loneliness

Loneliness, is watering your garden vegetables

And having no-one by your side to watch them grow

Loneliness, is playing your favourite sad song

And having no-one listening to you singing out of tune

Loneliness, is viewing your family photo album

And having no-one to share your private memories with

Loneliness, is being home sick, oh so very sick

And having no-one to tend to your aches and selfish moans

Loneliness, is awakening to the crisp morning dew

And having no-one to feel the warmth of your heart at sunrise

Loneliness, is walking a sandy beach until the tide comes in

And having no-one to hold when the ocean finally covers you

Loneliness, is lying upon your empty bed

And having no-one, having no-one here at all

G’day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I’m an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I’ve been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I’ve been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems. View all posts by ivor20

  1. May your writing and blogging keep you going, lock down is strange, isolating and sometimes a bit scary. I am out of four months shield lock down now, it feels strange after so long to have the liberty to walk outside my garden gate or to spend time with people including my better half. If I didn’t write and blog I don’t know what would have kept me sane, oh okay, safely insane.

Hang in there, mate, it’s not forever
