BETTER LATE THAN NEVER (I hope!)
Deveraux Frazier and Beth Amanda are currently hosting the Tuesday Writing Prompt Challenge which was started by our star writer Christine Ray. We hope to offer all of you something that will spark your creativity and willingness to participate.
The prompts are designed to be quick challenges that can be written in 10 to 15minutes, inspire you creatively, are fun, and get everyone interacting. Please post your response to the prompt in the comments below and show your fellow posters some love and support. All members of the Go Dog Go community, including Baristas, are welcome to participate. Feel free to share this post on your own blogs and/or Facebook.
We are always looking for cool, quick writing prompts. If you have a great idea for a future Tuesday prompt challenge, send it to Beth Amanda at midwestfantasy333@gmail.com
Today’s prompt is to use this phrase in a poem.
The phrase = simmer of summer
You can leave your responses in the comments below and/or link to a piece from your blog.

In the quiet
simmer of summer
lights dim
laughter turns to sighs
nights ending
hearts knowing
no more
will we have this
goodbyes to difficult
to feel

simmer of summer
perpetually on the equator
stop and savour
coconut ice creams
bikini toppings
lazy Sundays
sweet dreams

Simmer of summer says Sam
Sally sips her drink and smiles
What could he mean, Cindy,
She asks her friend shyly
Who responds, summer slips
Away from us so get out there
And simmer,
girlfriend
while you still got it

Simmer of summer
Simmer of summer
Lounging around lazily
Waiting for the rain’s patter
As well as thunder, the drummer.

They sinned that summer
An affront against god but not flesh
In the backseat of a car, steam rising.
They smiled that summer
held hands and fed each other ice cream
Still the asphalt reflected their heat.
They studied each other that summer
The leaves were touched with brown
And the anger heated their eyes.
Then the freshness of fall
Drove out the simmer of summer
They no longer felt each other’s warmth.

simmer of the summer
his body turned cold
for she left him
the dark clouds behold
the summer of his life went by
without saying the last goodbye

Ahhh! My apologies for being late. I’ve had wall to wall Back to School meetings this week.
Here is my response.

Believe me I can relate to those meetings. Fortunately, I am done with my teaching chapter of life.
Your poem is absolutely fantastic! My favorite line was “undressed by the August storm.” I could actually feel your words as I read this piece. Thank you for your contribution! And good luck with the school year📚

Thanks! I’m looking forward to the school year, but I’ll also be very happy when I don’t have to go back. 🙂
