Open Mic: Children of Danu/John W. Leys

Danu, our mother,
Goddess of the Danube,
Sister of the Rhine,
Liquid lifeblood
Of Germani and Kelts.

Mother of Irish gods,
Who arrive in Éire
Riding clouds of mist and fire.
Ruling the Emerald Isle
Til the coming of the sons of Míl
Drove them to retreat underground,
Into the ancient sídhe,
Shadows in the Otherworld.

9/8/17

Pronunciation key:
Danu – Dan-oo
Germani – Jer-MAN-ee
Éire – Air-ya
sidhe – shee.

Note: I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to Irish Gaelic pronunciations, so some of these may not be exact. Corrections are welcome!

Open Mic: Hunger/Kristiana

You broke my heart

when syllables stopped

spilling from your lips

curled and plump

sounds which caressed

tightened

tendrils romantic

around my arms

ankles and throat

squeezing

constricted airways

my chest throbbing

furiously in the heat

hunger

between our fingers

and thumbs.

You broke my heart

when promise of a touch

became nothing

mutters

on the wind

sparks in a vacuum

fire

on the ocean floor

distance ripped

love asunder

insatiable hunger

sated

by another.

Open Mic Night: Web of Lies

The girl was stuck in the web
she wondered how,
She was naive and innocent ,
did not understand the world and its chaos .
Every time she wanted out , another lie, another farce stuck to her somehow .
Those who she had thought her own, had made her reach to a no return.
They branded her and insulted her, for what she did not own.
Life became hell she thought she was stuck in the web not her own.
Then an angel fairy came and rescued her from her plight,
She told her to trust herself and move on in her life.
So many years later the trials and tribulations forgotten, she built up a life and family of her own.
Her life was full of fun and laughter, away from the accusations and the slander .
One day she remembered something and wanted to share with one of her own,
She innocently went about asking so she could share what was in her soul,
Then the vicious cycle started , they wanted to pull her in their web of lies,
But this time the girl was grown up and could stand on her own.
She realized that they could never be part of her own .

All I can say that their is always light at the end of the tunnel . I have found mine.

Hope you all find yours.

Love and Light

‘i shall never be clean,’ she moans. the bathroom floor is littered with shards of soap, fragranced fragments that decorate the greasy linoleum like pointed pebbles on a dirty beach. an old towel holds her damp hair – a mother’s hand, gently secure in her naked vulnerability.
‘i shall never be clean,’ she sings. another soapy slither drops to the floor, milky suds pooling beneath it; a sailboat at low tide.
‘clean…’ wrinkled fingers unwrap a fresh bar. clean, smooth – it plops beneath the bathwater, and the baby splash makes her giggle.

I’m cheap, I like to save money because I want to spend it all on beer. All of it, every single dime I make wants to land at the beer store. I find that my cheapness often leads me down a dangerous path.

Car repairs. Sure, anyone can do brakes in their back yard, why pay full price for brakes? Actually, no, not everyone can do brakes. Apparently, some mechanics can’t even do brakes. Save five hundred on brakes, pay seven hundred in repairs to fix it… Guess what? You still need new brakes.

Tires. Sure, buy cheap tires, tires aren’t an important safety feature of your car. Any ole tires will do. Bonus points if you find them in a field. Free!!!

Clothing. Sure, you can buy cheap clothing and pull your underwear up every five minutes. Your boobs fall out of your bra and the seam is coming out of your shirt. Now your boobs are falling out of both your bra and your shirt. (Free drinks!!!)

Furniture. Why spend money on a decent sofa or mattress when you can break your back on a cheap one for the rest of your life. Chiropractor waiting rooms are a fun way to meet other broken-down people. Just think of the pain killers you can get hooked on!!!

Food. Sure ramen is 25 cents. It’s filling. What’s high blood pressure? Who cares? High blood pressure pills are two dollars each. Or you can drop dead, dropping dead is cheap.

Cosmetics and hair products. Sure, who cares? Five years of cheap cosmetics and hair products and you’ll look 150 years old, or older. Don’t worry, you’re about to drop dead from high blood pressure anyways, so what’s the difference?

It’s only money, spend it. Buy all the things. ALL THE THINGS.

Immaculate conception

Unimaginable deception

Bloodied bible

Walls pitted

Plastered with black

Brush the bullets

From the pelleted pews

Panicked prayers

Dynamite dreams

Shattered screams

Sentenced to life

Punished to create

Hell on earth

The color of cages

The sound of metal

The taste of time

Drowning in drought

Dying in doubt

Dreadful days

Demoniac nights

I always do it wrong

It’s my theme song

Conform and play along

The usual suspects

The resemblance is uncanny

Crimes passed down from family

Psalms of a liar

Set the world on fire

It’s getting late

Time to change the channel

Drunk at midnight

Rabid dog bite

I

I, girl-child

Deconstructed

Mother fix me

In your image

Go for the kill

Words are systematic

Reconstructed

Reassure you

Own my image

Go for the kill

I will be good

Words are systematic

 II

Glitch in the program

I am fifteen, black as rage

Against…

Words are systematic

You lacked my level

And I grew tired

You reeled me back in

Words are systematic

 III

I am good wife

Subservient

Mechanical

Learned behavior

Thanks to you, Mom

Words are systematic

Fuck when he wants

Eat when he wants

Sleep when he wants

Cry when he wants

Run when he wants

Words are systematic

 IV

Daughter, just a babe

Speaks to me the loving truth

And I break my bonds

I break the circle

I break free

See my flamethrower heart

I am mother lioness

I am real LOVE

I am individual

I am woman

I am truth

See my flamethrower heart
