A fullness has settled within the air,
Comfortable and familiar to the touch.
Like a lazy River running,
Smoothing stones to polished gems.
I feel the growth of summer culminating,
As bows droop under handfuls of sun warmed produce.
Now I’d the time to drink honey with the bees,
And thank each tree, bush, and root.
For life is a riot of tossed salad greens,
And rolling fruit glistening in the sun.
For some this is the pinnacle of year,
Reaping the beginnings of a working summer.
But not me with my eye to each swaying leaf,
I await a time of bronze and gilded fire.
When the world sings a tune most dear,
And my heart wanders between fallen leaves.
There my happiness will flower and bloom,
And peace in my heart will ripen.
Like an apple found at the end of September,
I look forward to when Autumn is crowned Queen.
