Throwback Friday-Oceans by Liyona

I grasped for the ocean breeze

tossed my hair and felt the spray on my

lips with salt and sea

for somewhere inside

I always believed that I could

breathe underwater.

I waited to feel the waves

swim through my fingertips

and gently say my name

whispers of an ancient place

and a future time

while winds caused my eyes

to water.

By and by, I stood at the precipice

in one place while the oceans brought

loves and loses to my shores

there I waited for a sweet

sunny smile to release me from

the relentless oceans,

the waves of time.

I wrote this poem on the first day of COVID quarantine. As we head into another year, I will be sharing poems from March 2020. I think it is important to think, reflect and take time to see howmuch our lives have changes. It is refreshing as I enter into a new spring to read my old words and think about everything that has happened within this year. Photo by Tim Marshall on Unsplash.

Liyona is an “average joe” kind of writer who likes to think about ordinary things and then write them down. Ever since she can remember, she has been rhyming words and creating lyric poems. During her college years, she took a more serious bent toward writing and started to post on her blog (The Life and Times of a Quirky Character.) Currently, she resides on the East Coast of the United States just north of the country’s capital.
