These Vexing Times
I’m repotting plants today…repotting, relocating, rethinking. Anything to feel a bit of control over my immediate destiny. A little dramatic? Yes, but still, these are vexing times. So much of my autonomy is in question these days…but I remain the queen of my home…and plants my subjects.
As I cradle the root ball and shake the dirt loose, I recall a story from long ago. A gardener is rough handling the plants as he moves them from one pot to another and his apprentice is aghast at the seemingly violent treatment. The gardener gently explains that plants sometimes need a bit of shaking up…doing so allows better growth, stronger roots, and it makes the plant healthier in the long run.
I chuckle, a soft smile on my lips.
in His hands
He the gardener
my growth comes
