My poem “Tall Ships, An Encore” appears in the published book, Geelong Writers Anthology, Writeabout-Two, 2019 edition
Tall Ships, An Encore
Fellow passengers, stay calm, we’re still afloat
I must moor this old sinking boat
We’ll then all alight
Walk the plank tonight
Venture ashore
Continue to explore
Search the empty stores
Behind every closed door
Under creaky floors
Inside living pores
I’m ready for the chore
I need to know more
Discover the final score
Before I’m too old and poor
Let me go, let me soar
Fly me to my encore

G’day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I’m an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I’ve been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I’ve been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems. My poem that I wrote 2 years ago “Tall Ship, An Encore” is up on ‘Go Dog Go Cafe’,… ironically my words seem very poignant, during our current circumstances
Oh wow..I will… coincidently I was in the Historic house of Walt Whitman, in Camden NJ. last May… fascinating….I’ll google the poem now…. thank very much…….
It is certainly a very famous poem, especially since it was about Sir Lincoln. The poem’s reference was made in the movie Dead Poet’s Society starring Robbin Williams, incredible movie, do see it if you haven’t😍🌼💞
So beautiful and chilling. An excellent piece.

Ivor, I remember the poem. Wasn’t there something about this picture? Was it your father, or grandfather’s photograph?

Yes, well done Colleen, it’s my Grandfather’s photo… when he was a surveyor for the East Indian Company in Ceylon, and Malaya
