Constantly falling
In beat with the
Music
Surrounding
The withered old
Mailbox
Tree roots
And long grasses
Sway while
the one-eyed cat watches
I hum a tune
With grains
Of dirt in my fingernails
And the hope of lemonade
Sour
It is a time
And a world
I wish to live in for a while
Summer
.
Author’s Note: I originally wrote this poem in February and I think its perfect to bring it back for this year’s February. It is fun to dream about warmth and sunny weather when its cold and cloudy outside. Oh! I want some lemonade… Photo by Louis Hansel @shotsoflouis on Unsplash.

Liyona is an “average joe” kind of writer who likes to think about ordinary things and then write them down. Ever since she can remember, she has been rhyming words and creating lyric poems. During her college years, she took a more serious bent toward writing and started to post on her blog (The Life and Times of a Quirky Character.) Currently, she resides on the East Coast of the United States just north of the country’s capital.
‘ The one-eyed cat watches’ – that’s a line I’m not going to forget for a long time…

This really creates a sense of slowness. I can hear the locusts singing!
