Love is always our alibi, for all the things we do, fail and hope to do. Waiting seems the biggest price to pay for love.
Listening for familiar footfalls,
of keys jangling
then a whimper greeting
the clatter of laughter
Clock ticks, air hums.
Tiredness pinches
like a brand new shoe
Silent prayers
poised in humidity.
Hope suspended
In infinity.
The hour now long past
Waiting and worry : My currency of love
Inspired by the movie The Water Diviner and song “Love Was my Alibi” by Kris Fogelmark.

Eugi, Gina,
I am glad you highlighted this stanza, it struck me the most as well. Not that I get how shoes pinch like women do, but I do get a good sense of the meaning of the poem with these lines. Really good.
Thank you for sharing this!

Having watched the movie now(Thanks), your exquisite imagery, perfectly captures those precious moments of wasted love, by stubbornly or wistfully waiting…….

I am glad you watched it after the first time I wrote this, I saw it when I was in Melbourne and loved every detail. Wasted love, yes that was a sad ingredient.
