Throwback Friday: Recklessly She Declared Truth – Christine E. Ray

Thank you Davy D  for serving as this piece’s inspiration

recklessly
she looked deep inside
saw fire and ice
in her heart
smelled iron and
cooper in her blood
felt moon and ocean tides
tug her soul
knew the hum of words
crawling under skin
burning to escape
knew herself a poet
the shortsightedness
of self-declared authorities
who believe themselves
arbitrators anointed from above
be damned
they did not have the wisdom
the clarity
the passion
to judge
all that she was
truth would be hers alone
to reveal

  1. This is beautiful. It really resonates with me as someone that’s just beginning to try writing. It reminds me that there’s no authority that can tell me how to say what I want to say. Thank you 🙂

  2. YESS! I love how this past poem responds to that post by Dave D. so well!
    “felt moon and ocean tides
    tug her soul”
I love the word “tug” because its something you have to respond to even if you don’t want to!
