A Poet by Lazarus Shatipamba

Who ignores time walks in darkness, and who explores it is illuminated by great light.

Ibn Ezra

He was just a poet
in a world of slay kings and queens.

When the world
tried to take the pen
From his hand so that he pens
not poems that will rise and stand
To talk about the ways they get their wins.

They wanted him not at the peak of his powers
For they knew his charms were like perfumed flowers
That attract swarms of people to him to take a sip
Of the sweet juices of his nectar, without letting it drip.

He was just a poet
in a world of slay kings and queens.

When the world
tried to take away all his quills
And all the stacks of paper piled in his bag
So that his head drops and his shoulders sag
.
