All my life I've been yearning for a safe relationship. A relationship where I can feel free without anxiety, express myself in whatever way I want, and love knowing that it'll always be reciprocated. Truth is, those wishes are no more than dreams. This is how we know we’ve made it,
not by being in record books,
but by being dug up
by a civilisation
long after us,
who will not look
at the amalgamation
of rock, sand and coral
coated in synthetics
and see a rarity,
of how we shaped the earth
in the image
of our greed.
Note: Plastiglomerate is a ‘new’ rock formed when melted plastics combine with rock, sand, coral and other debris to form a geological entity that will be embedded in the fossil record, and noted as a characteristic of the Anthropocene. A thumping, a glumping, a bumping is heard
I turn and there’s nothing, I swear.
It’s darkening, fear’s hearkening.
Then suddenly, a dank chill fills the air.
Shawl pulled closer, mood grows moroser,
Sparks prickle the ends of my hair.
Mood’s getting intense, I light the incense.
Oh dear, what’s that shape over there.
My eyes attestation, skull’s manifestation
As its eyes glow, it floats near the chair.
