In My Dreams

tree-738816_1280“We cast away priceless time in dreams, born of imagination, fed upon illusion, and put to death by reality.”
Judy Garland
In my dreams you are there, dark silhouette of a man
my sleeping eyes flutter to the hammering beat
of the song you sing when my heart takes wing
as the plaintive notes bleed into my trembling hands.

But only with the lush red wine of ancient vines
drunk with the coming of ebony night,
and the sharpest closing of reality’s door
are you there, haunting my dreams once more.

So let the wine flow through barren lips which long to kiss
and fill these empty spaces, for what will be, will be
as leaden eyes welcome blissful sleep, I fall into the blue abyss
where my lonely heart lives in faded dreams of you and me.
