My heart parts its lips
utter something
pure and divine
like the moon in its reverie
you ask “What’s my song”
I laugh and smile
with beauty imbued with
the fluttering of the
butterfly wings
so sublime;
My heart though brimming
with pain and anxiety
but ready for its encore every time.
My love is boundless
like a star-spangled sky
covering every iota of my soul;
gives me the sustenance
clears out the wool and webbing
from my disordered thinking
and makes me feel alive
once more.
I adorn the scars
as victory marks and
leaves the bloody trails
as maps, who follow;
Pushed and shoved aside
for reasons unknown
I thrash like a juggernaut
crashing and crumbling
the voices which pull me down
I simply ignore.
Waving my victory flag
so fervently
and singing my song
under my bated breath;
Here I come to
conquer the
uncharted waters of
my life
with a roar.

this is so amazing Megha! congratulations on winning, it is a very powerful poem. mental health issues are not often and easily recognised in Malaysia. I would like to share this at my next poetry meet with your permission, to read it out to everyone. It deserves a wider audience. So much I relate to in your words and understand, for some it may be too late but we need to share thoughts and feelings like these so others know there are us who care.

Thanks, Gina. It would be such an honor for me. If it’s not too much to ask, Could you please record your poetry recitation so that we can share with our readers. Mental health is a sensitive issue and needs more awareness to break the social stigma surrounding it. Thanks, Gina for your effort.

awesome Megha! thank you! i think it should not be too much trouble, but not sure of sound quality as we meet in a cafe and lots of white noise may be distracting, but i will organise that. It won’t be me reading though, I will get a friend to read it out. yes there’s a lot of misdiagnosis as well as it is not considered a legitimate illness! HAH! but awareness is key to get past all that. your poem embodies that intention.
