Jasmine Mystery

Why God chose the cabbage rose to smell so divine
and why he invoked the purity of a white jasmine vine
to arouse the senses to carry me to torrid steamy nights
and days of hot sultry summers spent with a forbidden lover.

For the jasmine looks to be such an innocent flower
until the heady scent captures you with its fragrant power.

And it’s all I can do not to remember
those long languorous hours
sweating in the humid air underneath its billowy bowers
basking in my lover’s scent, mixed with all the flowers.

I close my eyes and now, I’m in his strong tanned arms
letting down all defenses, and using womanly charms
helping him find my secret place in petals of glorious release
during the sensuous evenings spent young, wild and free.

These are mysteries to which I have no answers.
