Writing Prompt Tuesday

Christine is known for her writing prompt challenges on her blog Brave and Reckless.  She is now hosting a Tuesday Writing Prompt Challenge at the Go Dog Go Cafe.  The prompts are designed to be quick challenges that can be written in 10 to 15 minutes,  inspire you creatively, are fun, and get everyone interacting.  Please post your response to the prompt in the comments below and show your fellow posters some love and support.  All members of the Go Dog Go community, including Baristas, are welcome to participate.  Feel free to share this post on your own blogs and/or Facebook.

Christine is always looking for cool, quick writing prompts.  If you have a great idea for a future Tuesday prompt challenge, send it to her at christine.e.ray@gmail.com

Today’s prompt: Making Magic

Today’s writing prompt is inspired by Maureen Thorson’s NaPoWriMo site.  Write a poem or a piece of prose in which mysterious and magical things occur. It could take the form of a spell, for example, or simply describe an event that can’t be understood literally. Feel free to incorporate crystal balls, fauns, lightning storms, or whatever seems fierce and free and strange.

Example:

Village Magic

He contained a rough earthy magic

that made dogs follow him through town

as if he carried T-bone steaks in his pocket

made the trees stand up a little straighter

showing off their finery when he walked by

caused the village women to open shutters

undo top buttons

let down their hair

sigh when he strode past their open windows

He only had eyes for her

the woman who lived on the outskirts of town

in a neat cottage full of dried herbs hanging from the ceiling

pitchers full of lavender on her table

she contained moon magic

he could see it in her eyes

in the luminescence of her skin

could hear the tides when his ear was close to hers

the sparks that erupted when they touched

made the fireplace roar and the lanterns flicker

while the wolves howled their music to the starry night
