Adulting In My Sleep- December Rose

I once gave up flight

In the middle of the night

And so I lost my sight

For the city lights

Yet, still I’m whisked away

Come the break of day

To places children don’t play

To where I’m hard-pressed to say

That I can still smile

Like I did when I, a child

Sat and stared for awhile

In a midsummer breeze, perfect and wild

So tonight, as I rest my head

I’ll go to sleep instead

Wide-eyed as pirate-dread

And fly with dragon wings and a helium-head

Instead of a heart made of lead
